I’ve rounded up twelve of the most convenient and atmospheric hotels around Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) — places where you can drop your bags, grab a coffee, and walk straight into the city’s cultural core. Each one has strong verified reviews (8 and above), flexible rates, and that easy balance of location + character that makes a short stay actually feel like a break.
This pocket of central Oslo isn’t just about trains. Within ten minutes on foot you’ll find the Opera House, the new MUNCH Museum, and some of the city’s most interesting cafés — from minimalist roasteries in Bjørvika to retro spots like Fuglen that roast beans the old-fashioned way.
Whether you’re here for a winter weekend or a late-night arrival from the airport, these are the hotels that make Oslo effortless.

What You Can Walk to from Oslo Central Station
Staying near Oslo S puts almost everything within ten minutes on foot. You can walk to:
- Oslo Opera House — a five-minute stroll for fjord views and sunset photos from the roof.
- MUNCH Museum and the waterfront boardwalk in Bjørvika, lined with independent coffee spots like Talormade and Kaffebrenneriet.
- Karl Johans gate for shops and street buskers.
- Akershus Fortress and the Barcode art trail for a short dose of Oslo culture without a tram ride.
Everything’s flat, safe, and well lit — even after dark. The airport train (Flytoget) and trams leave from inside the station if you want to venture further.

I found transport to and from Oslo Airport and pretty much allother major aiports in Norway to be seemless and really well organised. It felt super safe, catchhe airport train, even at night. The only caveat I would add is to make sure to book a flight that arrives early enough to catch the Airport train, as these do stop after midnight or so, after which point taxis can get significantly more expensive.
