Written by Ayushi, a frequent solo traveller who’s stayed in multiple places across Tbilisi, while exploring the city at length.
Trying to decide where to stay in Tbilisi when you’re travelling solo can feel like a balancing act between safety, convenience and character. You want somewhere central enough to walk to cafés or the metro, but not so loud or dimly lit that returning after dinner feels uneasy.
Tbilisi’s centre—stretching from Freedom Square through Rustaveli Avenue to the edge of the Old Town—has several hotels that manage that mix beautifully: secure entrances, 24-hour desks, bright public spaces, and staff who actually notice when guests come and go.
Having spent a lot of time exploring Tbilisi on my own, I found the city to be generally very safe for female travelers, nonetheless choosing a place that prioritises safety and is situated in a safe, well lit area are important.
Below are seven hotels I’ve hand-picked that work for solo female travellers who value a central, walkable base with strong safety cues and consistent guest reviews.
Quick Picks: (Top Solo-Friendly Choices)
These three have proven 24/7 staffing, bright approaches, and strong review averages (8.5 +).
Best Overall — Shota @ Rustaveli Boutique Hotel→
Elegant boutique stay just off Rustaveli Avenue with sound-insulated rooms and a reliable 24-hour reception. Steps from cafés and shops but surprisingly quiet once inside, similar in feel to other boutique hotels in Tbilisi’s centre.
Best Old Town Base — Mercure Tbilisi Old Town →
Mid-range comfort right by the sulfur baths and Narikala Hill. The rooftop SKY7 bar gives sunset views without leaving the property — one of several Tbilisi hotels with rooftop bars and city views.
Best Central Value — ibis Styles Tbilisi Center→
Reliable brand pick at Freedom Square with colourful interiors and bright street frontage. Great option if you want everything walkable with more coworking-friendly hotels in Tbilisi listed in a separate guide.
Rooms facing inner courtyards or higher floors are the most popular.

Behind a glass façade just off Rustaveli Avenue, Shota @ Rustaveli Boutique Hotel blends soft lighting, wooden floors and deep-set windows that keep street noise out. Staff are professional yet warm, and reception never closes. Breakfast is one of the city’s best—fresh pastries and strong coffee in a calm courtyard.
Quick take:
- Sound-insulated rooms + lit main entrance
- Two-minute walk to Rustaveli metro
- Ask for a courtyard or upper-floor room for extra quiet
Why book? Its combination of boutique comfort and reliable staffing means you can come back late without hesitation. See my full guide to boutique hotels in Tbilisi →
I’d personally alway prefer booking a higher-floor room because the soundproofing is just higher up, in this part of the city.

2. Mercure Tbilisi Old Town (SKY7)
Old Town Sulfur Bath District · Rating 8.9 · $$–$$$ · IHG brand reliability
Mercure Tbilisi Old Town sits in the thick of the historic district, steps from Abanotubani’s sulfur baths. Its rooftop SKY7 bar doubles as a safe evening spot for solo guests who’d rather avoid wandering after dark — part of the same appeal you’ll find in other Tbilisi hotels with rooftop bars and city views.
The front desk operates 24 hours, and staff can arrange taxis from the airport at any hour.
Quick take:
- Rooftop bar & terrace with Narikala views
- 24/7 reception and security presence
- Ask for upper floors away from street level
Why book? It’s ideal if you want Old Town charm but still prefer the reassurance of a global chain.

3. ibis Styles Tbilisi Center
Freedom Square · Rating 8.6 · $$ · Budget-mid brand trust
Bright, colourful, and unmistakably modern, the ibis Styles Tbilisi Center sits right off Freedom Square — arguably the most convenient base in the city. Despite the central location, soundproofing is excellent. The reception area is open round the clock, and the elevator is key-secured for guests.
Quick take:
- 24/7 desk + luggage storage
- Minutes from Liberty Square Metro
- Interior rooms = quiet sleep despite traffic
Why book? Excellent amenties, well priced and hundreds of positive recent reviews.
If you’re noise-sensitive, I’d choose an interior room; if you want city views, go for the corner Deluxe with balcony. I personally always try to book a room with balcony if its in my budget – especially if it means I get a street view. People watching in a foreign city is definitely underrated!

Holiday Inn Tbilisi sits right beside Technical University Metro — a straight-line ride to Freedom Square in under ten minutes. It’s business-oriented rather than boutique, but that brings advantages: trained staff, cameras at every entry, and a proper night manager. The illuminated frontage faces a main boulevard that stays busy even late.

Aghmashenebeli Ave · Rating 8.8 · $$ · Lively brand energy
Moxy brings the social side of Marriott’s portfolio to central Tbilisi. The fun yet stylish lobby doubles as a co-working space with plenty of visibility — ideal place to get some work done, or grab a coffee. Street access is direct from the main avenue, so taxis and Bolt drivers can pull up right outside.

- 24-hour lobby bar = someone always around
- Staff trained for solo guests and late check-ins
- Courtyard-side rooms are quieter than street-view ones
Why book? Near active public areas and main-road access make it feel safer after dark than many smaller guesthouses.
Having stayed in other Moxys across Europe and the UK, I do love their lobby turned coworking space / casual cafe/ bar, which always feels stylish and friendly, rather than the formal vibe of every other hotel.

7. Hotel City
Old Town Fringe · Rating 8.7 · $$ · Quiet street near Freedom Square
Hotel City hides on a short uphill lane just off Freedom Square, close enough to reach cafés and metro in minutes but shielded from heavy traffic. The 24-hour desk sits directly opposite the front door, so someone always sees who comes in. A rooftop terrace overlooks the old quarter — an easy spot to unwind instead of venturing out again.
This is where I stayed for the second half of my stay in Tbilisi. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the rooftop terrace was a nice bonus. I would recommend booking a higher floor room facing the street such as the one pictured above. I had one facing the inner courtyard, which was ok, but the front view is much better!
Quick Takes
- Compact rooms but bright and clean
- Rooftop terrace for evening air without leaving property
- Ask for upper floors or terrace-access rooms
Why book? Small scale, central convenience and a reputation for genuinely kind staff — the same traits shared by other quiet guesthouses in Old Tbilisi near the baths.

Solo Travel Tips for Booking Safely in Tbilisi
- Book early with free cancellation. Solo-friendly rooms (small doubles on quiet floors) sell out first.
- Choose visible frontages. Google Street View lets you check lighting before you book.
- Use Freedom Square or Rustaveli as anchors. Both are safe for evening returns and easy for rideshare pick-ups.
- Request late check-in by message. Hotels here are used to it but confirming ensures someone is waiting.
- Inspect stairs or lifts if you’re arriving with heavy bags; some Old Town buildings lack step-free access.
- Trust your gut. If the route feels too quiet, order a Bolt or walk on main roads. I found Bolts were incredibly cheap in Georgia, short rides were often less than the cost of a public transport ticket in most other western European cities.
- For extra peace of mind, you can also check the official Tbilisi Tourist Police advice page, which explains how to contact local officers and where the main patrol areas are in the city centre.
You can also skim the Georgia travel safety advisory for up-to-date notes on safe districts, local transport, and emergency contact numbers before your trip.
FAQs About Safe Hotels & Solo Female Travel in Tbilisi
Q: Is Tbilisi safe for women walking alone at night?
Generally yes in central areas like Rustaveli and Freedom Square. Side alleys in Old Town get quiet after midnight — use Bolts or other rideshare if you feel unsure.
Q: Which neighbourhood is best for first-timers?
Freedom Square and Rustaveli put you close to transport and shops while staying well-lit. Old Town suits sightseeing but pick a street with steady foot traffic.
Q: Can I rely on hotel taxis for late arrivals?
Yes. Every hotel on this list offers 24-hour transfer coordination — pre-book to avoid waiting outside arrivals. If for any reason, this cannot be organised, Bolts to/ from the Tbilisi Airport are very affordable here.
If I were booking for Tbilisi again, I’d go for Rustaveli for ease and location, but Mercure’s rooftop is a close second.
